Top Movie Theater Experiences Around Gainesville

Tired of streaming the same shows on Netflix and Hulu? Even if you aren’t, there’s something about a trip to a Gainesville movie theater that never fails to excite. Gainesville is pretty fortunate to have several unique movie theaters in the area. From art cinemas to drive-ins, movie theaters in Gainesville offer unique experiences like opening premieres, luxury atmospheres and nostalgic settings.

Three Gainesville Movie Theaters You Need to Experience

1. Hippodrome State Theatre

The Hippodrome Theatre in Downtown GainesvilleWhile many only see The Hippodrome as a performance art theater, the state theater is also an art-house cinema venue. This means that they show more than what you would see at a traditional theater.

The Hippodrome (also known as The Hipp) shows independent films, hard-hitting documentaries, acclaimed world cinema and throwback classics regularly. They’re currently showing The Biggest Little Farm (a Sundance film), Apocalypse Now: Final Cut and Echo in the Canyon.

The Hipp is the perfect Gainesville movie theater to reminisce on classic films and expand cultural exposure to foreign media.

2. Ocala Drive-In Theater

For a unique movie-going experience, the Ocala Drive-In Theater is a must. Open seven days a week, the Ocala drive-in gives you the opportunity to see two movies for the price of one. They have two screens (with two different movies played on each), a concession stand with popcorn, kid’s meals, pizza and video games.

A 45-minute drive from Celebration Pointe, the drive-in is a great, inclusive movie-going experience. One of the main perks of a drive-up theater is that you can bring blankets and pillows to watch outside of your car, your own snacks and even your furry family members. The Ocala drive-in also allows you to support a local Florida business.

You can see the latest double features here and on their Facebook page.

3. Regal Celebration Pointe 10 & RPX

Regal Celebration Pointe 10 & RPX features reserved, plush recliner seating, self-service kiosks, advanced Dolby sound, a full bar and an extensive food menu (goodbye popcorn; hello flatbreads, chicken wings and more!)

Going to the movie theater is always a treat. But if you are looking for something more to do than a night at the cinemas, Celebration Pointe is the place to be. Shop at world-class brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Nike Factory Outlet, catch a nice dinner at Miller’s Ale House, MidiCi The Neapolitan Pizza Company or The Keys (set to open in early September) or check out one of Celebration Pointe’s live music events!
